Academic description of the English Department

The English Language Department at Imam University College is one of the modern departments in the college, as it was established in the academic year 2023-2024. The department began with two departments, and we hope that the number will increase in the coming years, especially since the intention is to open an evening department next year, God willing, due to the increasing demand from state employees to enter the department.

Vision:

Strengthening the educational process through its departments in language, literature and linguistics. The Department of English aims to support the community through graduates with high linguistic skills and experience to enter into various fields of professionalism necessary to contribute to the field of teaching English as a foreign language through the use of modern trends and technology.

The department aims to prepare a generation of graduates qualified to engage in scientific research in the disciplines of English language and literature and to keep pace with modern scientific research methods based on solid foundations in the field of the English language, as well as excellence in providing educational services and scientific research in the field of the English language.

Strengthening the university’s mission towards a better position locally and internationally, the basic mission of the department is to work with a modern academic strategy, relying on the best techniques in teaching English around the world, which ensures a better result and the success of new methods in the creative teaching of the basic departments of language and literature. In addition to graduating qualified scientific cadres capable of researching and working to meet the needs of society, and providing schools with cadres with professional and scientific capabilities to work on teaching the English language. The department seeks to provide students with the opportunity to develop their language skills, especially listening, reading, writing and speaking that will provide appropriate education and communication abilities, as well as finding a place in today’s world where the English language is widely used for communication, especially in the social media platforms that they may use. For academic motivations, the department also aims to improve the student’s knowledge of the English language and its culture, to ensure good English speakers. The courses are mainly intended to enhance students’ creative and proficient use of the English language and, in addition, to enhance their research skills. The educational atmosphere, which we are trying to provide, will be appropriate to provide graduates with what they need to be a productive entity in our society.

Objectives:

  1. Providing the Ministry of Education with staff specialized in teaching the English language in secondary schools.
  2. Enabling students to become familiar with the rules of the English language (grammar and conversation), and its literature (play, novel, poetry, linguistics, and teaching methods), with the ability to write scientific research in those fields.
  3. Enhancing students’ awareness of the horizons of linguistic culture, ancient and modern, and equipping them with diverse literary, linguistic, and writing skills.
  4. Raising students’ awareness in understanding the English language, analyzing its texts, and knowing its creators throughout the ages, in writing and teaching in the fields of language and literature.
  5. Providing graduates with the skills to teach the various linguistic sciences they have learned to secondary school students later, using appropriate teaching methods and aided by modern means of clarification and scientific communication skills.
